Blog 10:

Some aspects I found in this course that were pretty useful were the time management lectures and the networking lectures. Time Management is very important to get a good grasp on because it could really hurt you in the long run of things. I like to think that my time management skills have definitely improved since starting collage. Time management is something that you can use for the rest of your life and will help you career.

Honestly, I think that only thing that I would change in the whole course would be the lectures that we had about social media. Personally I think that could have been left out of the course because it 2019 and everyone has some kind of social media account.  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram I think everyone understand social media and how it works. A lot of people who come to collage, are just now getting out of high school and you know they are all about social media. With that being said, I think the only think that I would have to eliminate would be the few social media lectures that we have had. Overall, I enjoy the class and the knowledge I have gained from it.

Blog 09: Goals

One of my biggest goals I hope to achieve is to work for a post-production house out west. My dream job is to become a Foley Artist. I am hoping after I finished up school, I can move back out west to Arizona or somewhere around there and get a job doing Foley work or video/editing work. I think that I’ll have enough experience under my belt to succeed in reaching my goal by the time I finish up school.

In three to five years, I hopefully see myself living on the west coast somewhere and working in the field that I want to work in. I’m hoping it’ll be at a post-production house creating Foley and learning to create profession sound effects. I know for sure that I want to live back on the west coast, I’m hoping by the time I’m finished with school, I will have a good amount of money saved up for the move. As I will get closer to finishing school, I plan on doing research to see what Post production company’s I can find in Arizona or around it. I know one things for sure, I do not want to go back to L.A.

Blog 08: Advice

Advice I would give to a new student coming into the eMedia program would be to stay focused all the way through the semester, make sure that you do turn in every assignment for every class that you are taking and get to know your professors and your classmates. Getting to know your classmates is very important, along with your professor because If you miss a class or don’t really understand the assignments, you have someone to turn to for help.

One of the biggest advices I can give is not to procrastinate on big assignments. A few assignments over the semester may take more than just a few hours to complete and if you procrastinate on it, you will definitely do poorly and receive a bad grade, so give yourself enough time on big projects and assignments.

Information that would have helped me advance more quickly would have been not procrastinating on smaller projects. I’m pretty good about managing my time when it comes to big projects for design or video but when it comes to typing up papers or something similar, that’s when the procrastination gets bad. I believe I am getting better at this as I get more through school.

Blog 07: Portfolios

The process for me when selecting my work that I want to put into my portfolio is quite simple actually. Luckily throughout the year I have been keeping my work organized and all in the correct folder corresponding to the whichever class I am taking at the time. I have all of my classes organized by semesters and each class has its own individual folders. As I am adding work into my online portfolio, I go through each and every folder I have and open every project I have done to take a look at it. Of course, I have projects that I like better than others but so far, I plan on redoing at least two of my projects before submitting my portfolio. I also have about four personal projects that I will be adding into my portfolio as well.
My portfolio reflects my brand in a few deferent ways. My portfolio will contain a wide variety of projects from Audio, Video, Design and Photography. My brand will have many things to offer and my portfolio will show that. Once I finish school and start working more in the design field, I’m hoping to add more design projects into my portfolio so I can take out projects that I did while I was attending school.

Blog: 06 Networking/Interning

If It wasn’t for networking, I wouldn’t be working with the three audio/staging companies that I work for today. Personally, networking has helped me so much over the last two and a half years. I worked for a company called Loud and Clear and while I was there, I networked with all of the audio and staging techs, even the guys who work in the office. With doing so, I was able to get hired on as a subcontractor with a few other company’s once I left Loud and Clear. Networking has really helped me since I have been working in live sound and staging. I usually connect and try to network with most techs that I meet out on the job site. It can definitely help you get a job in what you want to do, even thought you might not get a job right away, but later down the road it’ll help.

As for Interning…Iv had the worst first experience with interning. Back in 2014 I interned with a company out in Hollywood called Larson Studios. The company was a post house and only worked on post production for movies and films. Nothing went like I was told it was going to. I didn’t get treated very well at all, out of the 4 months of being an intern, I only touched the gear/Pro Tools a total of about 5 times. Over all the experience was pretty bad. I plan on giving interning another shot over the summer.

Blog: 05 Attitudes

Keeping a positive attitude throughout your career will help you in the long run. Even though you will definitely hit bumps throughout your career, that is no reason to have a bad attitude. Yes, things will be tough and challenging but keeping a clear mind and a positive attitude can help you in more ways than you think. Having a bad attitude while working on a project can result in a poor project for the client, then that could result in losing your job or not getting called backed for the job again if you are a freelancer. If you are out on a job site and people around you have terrible attitudes towards you or just in general, you will want to brush it off and ignore it. That could lead to a bigger conflict that you do not want to be a part of and like I said earlier, you could easily lose your job over some little. Having a great and positive is why you most likely got the job or the gig in the first place. The client will be expecting that same energy from you when while you are working. Keeping a positive attitude in the work place is one of the best things you can do for yourself and the client.

Blog 04: Personal Strengths

As of right now, a few of my personal strengths are that I am very knowledgeable in audio and signal flow. My skills fall into Live Audio field, but I also know how to mix, master, record ADR and Foley for movies and films. Hopefully once I graduate from UC Blue ash my skills will upgrade and that would include, shooting and editing for video and photography, 2D and 3D design work. I am going to for some kind of design job after school. With having the knowledge and a skill set in all of the Adobe programs (mainly Illustrator) will improve my chances of getting hired on with some design company. One of my biggest personal weaknesses is that I am a very bad with spelling/taking notes. Growing up I have always been terrible at spelling and since I’m bad at spelling, that hurts my note taking abilities but the only way to overcome that is to practice, practice, practice. Something I am very passionate about is audio. I really enjoy the world of audio and everything that is involved with it. One of my dream jobs is to become a Foley artist someday. I think the idea of making sound effects with objects and everyday items is very fascinating to me. My interests and passion relate to my professional career by being a bonus set of skills for myself. I would like to get into the design field as a main career but also still continue to do live audio work on the side.

Blog 03: How does the process of ad analysis aid in preparing a cover letter?

The process of ad analysis helps when preparing a cover letter because it’s gives you a better understand how a proper cover letter should look like. Personally, I have always been pretty bad at writing cover letters. Doing a mock up cover letter for the ad analysis is really great practice for when you go to make up a real one.

When creating a cover letter for the job you are applying for, first you should know is how to properly dress your employer. You shouldn’t include things like “Dear: Too whom it may concern” or “Dear Mr. or Mrs.” You want to address them with a first and last name. If you don’t have a specific name, you may use the name of the company.

The power impact cover letter lets your cover letter stand out from the rest of them. You don’t want your cover letter and resume to get lost in the piles of others. You will want to grab the employer’s attention with in the first couple seconds. Just like the name, you want to leave a impact to whoever reads your cover letter.

Blog 02: Resume and Cover Letter

There are plenty of things to make your cover letter and your resume stand out from others and to get the employer’s attention.

First thing is first and you want to address your cover letter to a specific company or person.  You do not want to start the letter out with a “Dear Mr or Mrs” or “Dear Too whom it may concern. When you address the letter like that, you are not grabbing anyone’s attentions, most employers will just end up throwing it out and moving on.

The cover letter is one of the most important things about your resume. It gives the employers an idea of who you are as a person and where you stand as a professional. If you have bad grammar and punctuation, the employer will not take you seriously and move on to the next resume/cover letter. You want to be sure to list your contact information on it at the top and it doesn’t hurt adding it again in the closing paragraph.

The Resume on the other hand is a littler different. You want to make sure you have a clean and well-organized resume. You want make sure to have your Contact Information, Education, Professional Skills (Skills that relate to the job that you are applying for) Work History and some kind of Reference page.

BLOG: 01 JOB READINESS

I am very confident in my readiness for seeking a job in the emedia field. Getting a job in the emedia field no matter if its audio, video or design but its all about networking. Just by exchanging emails, phone numbers or even LinkedIn, that could lead to something bigger and better. I already have been working in the field for about 2 years now and networking has gotten me to where I am today with working for three different audio companies in the emedia field.

A few steps that you can take to ensure that you are ready to seek a job in the emedia field is to think about some of your core values and how you can use those values make someone’s business run better. What can you offer to an employer for them to want to hirer you? The course reading and the resume assignment is a great way to help prep yourself when seeking a job in the emedia field because it’ll put all of your core values and best talents up front for an employer to see. Plus, it gives you a better understanding what should and shouldn’t be used on a resume.
